The Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Torch Run made a special stop at George McDougall High School this morning at 10 a.m. 

Some great volunteers from Volunteer Airdrie made many local little girls' and boys' dreams come true by hosting the 4th annual Pirate and Princess Gallery on Sunday.

Freedom to Read Week is happening right now across Canada.

The event is filled with music, dancing, games, entertainment, food, refreshments, and all the magic any kid could hope for.

Restricting access to books goes against the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which upholds freedom of choice, expression and thought.

“The black community is a strong community,” Obasan said. “We seek to foster continuous unity between black residents of Airdrie and other residents of Airdrie, irrespective of their background, race, ethnicity or upbringing."

How one Airdrie family accomplished transforming their 1980s bi-level house into a net zero home.

“A lot of the community tends to just want to stay inside, and it's very natural for people to do that, so we're just trying to expose community gatherings and connect again during the winter season.”

“It’s more of a physical challenge to get people up off their seat from sedentary work or sitting in front of the TV. Getting up and enjoying the outdoors or just physical activity to get those brain functions to work again.”

We’re calling our little shindig “Love to Know You,” and it happens at Airdrie Public Library on Wednesday, February 14, at 7 p.m.
