Now that summer is in sight, a lot of people in Airdrie want to get their homes on the market.
Without a blanket of snow to make things look pretty and white or the lush green of summer in bloom, spring can be a tricky season to make a home look its best. Luckily, it's nothing a little hard work and effort won't fix.
Here are some simple things that every homeowner should consider before listing their home in spring:
Clean your windows
The dusty season has passed and street cleaning is well underway. Now is the time to get your windows washed inside and out. Once the windows are cleaned, pull up the blinds. Pictures always turn out better with the blinds all the way up. Unless you live next to an overpass or a naked lunatic, get those blinds up!
Power wash the exterior
This is the equivalent of us women getting a wash and blow-dry at the salon, or a man getting a hot shave. Nothing makes you feel more ready to take on the world. Trust me, it's the same for your home.
Clean up the dog poop
Put cushions on the patio furniture
Hang some string lights. Decorate the deck! While you're at it, please take the cover off the barbecue for pictures. (This is my pet peeve).
Water the grass
Open your windows
Paint (or stain) steps and porch
Nothing makes your home look slicker than a fresh coat of paint around high-traffic, and highly visual areas. Now that the weather has warmed up, you're running out of excuses to not paint or stain your steps, porch, and the area around your garage door.
And don't forget the fence and deck!
Get flowers (real or fake)
Flowers look great, and another way to spruce up your house's colour is by putting some planters out front and back to add vibrancy.
Extend your downspouts
Tidy up any debris
Extra building materials on the side of a home translate to clutter. When I see this, I assume the person is disorganized and that leads to me being suspicious of how well they are caring for their home.
Am I making a big leap in the wrong direction? Maybe. But on the other hand, pride of ownership is reflected in the cleanliness and organization of a home; inside and out. Whether it's a new home or a 100-year-old home, this principle applies.
Hang a wreath on the front door
A cute wreath adds some charm and makes your porch feel like an inviting space.
This can seem like a long list, but the truth is, if you put in the work in advance of listing your home, it will sell faster. Homes that sell quickly tend to sell for more money versus similar homes that sit on the market.
Invest some time into your home and you will reap the benefits!
