The healing power of music will be on view as evacuees of the Jasper wildfire are invited to attend the Calgary Folk Music Festival free of charge on Sunday, July 28.

The ongoing fires in Jasper have torn through the mountain town, causing a yet unknown amount of damage, and drawing national attention as firefighting crews from across the province have been mobilized to fight the fire.

This year’s festival is steampunk themed, drawing inspiration from Romania’s steampunk museum.

The Airdrie RCMP is sending officers to help with the Alberta wildfire situation in Jasper and other locales.

The City of Airdrie issued a fire restriction on July 24 due to current and forecasted hot and dry weather conditions. Environment Canada has also issued a heat warning and an air quality advisory for Airdrie.

The Airdrie Fire Department (AFD) stated Provincial authorities reached out to gain a sense of what AFD could offer and inventory resources, which is routine for events like this.

Jasper's mayor had left on a trip to Central Alberta and wasn't able to return home before devastating wildfires reached the town.

For the last two years, the Airdrie Irish football team, have come up painfully short of the Alberta Football League (AFL) title, losing in back-to-back championship games to the Cold Lake Fighter Jets in blowout fashion.

According to media reports, Quraishi's family resides in Airdrie. He was gunned down on Monday, July 22.

Due to the ongoing fires in the mountains near Jasper and Water Valley, the Air Quality Index for the Airdrie area remains very poor.
