Airdrie House & Home: Sprucing up for springtime at the Home & Lifestyle Show

Although Mother Nature hasn’t necessarily agreed with the yearly calendar yet, it is indeed Spring. While we wait for her to catch up with the calendar, now is the perfect time to start planning for warmer weather and all of the things we want to achieve during the warmer months.

Although Mother Nature hasn’t necessarily agreed with the yearly calendar yet, it is indeed spring. While we wait for her to catch up with the calendar, now is the perfect time to start planning for warmer weather and all of the things we want to achieve during the warmer months.

Home improvement tops most of our lists. We spend over half of our lives in our homes, so it’s important that we make it a comfortable, healthy and happy place that we can retreat to. For many, the décor is important. Everything from window coverings and paint to flooring and lighting enhances our surroundings and affects our mood. For others, it’s about making our homes a healthier and safer place. This could involve cleaning carpets, furnaces to installing a home security system.

We of course, don’t want to forget the outside of our homes. Now’s the time to plan for staining decks and fences, drawing up a new landscaping plan so that you can plant a few more vegetables this year, cleaning out gutters and garages. For those wanting to create a backyard oasis, perhaps there’s a desire for a new gazebo or hot tub. By planning ahead of time, we can ensure that we prioritize and complete everything we need to create our own happy place this year.

There are also young couples looking to get into their first homes. They will need to plan out which neighbourhood they might want to reside in. If they have young children, they may want to build or buy near a school site. Do they have pets? Then the size of the yard may also influence where or what they buy.

Amongst all of these tasks that we want to complete, is the desire to enjoy some leisure time. So now is also the time to plan vacations, get the car tuned up and the tires changed. Now is the time to investigate potential vacation destinations. Of course, we will need to look over our wardrobes as well. For some of us, two years of COVID-19 have added a few inches and pounds to our physiques. Does everything still fit comfortably? Do your clothes still portray the image you want for yourself?

That is indeed a lot of planning that needs to be done within the next few weeks. May is just around the corner and already, the parking lots of the local Home Hardware and Canadian Tire are busy with do-it-yourself-ers buying up garden tools, paint and everything else they need to get started. Planning so much in such a short period of time can seem overwhelming.

That’s what makes this weekend’s Home & Lifestyle Show such a valuable event. In one place, in one weekend, there are ideas to make our homes better, professionals available to answer questions, book appointments or offer suggestions. Everything from home maintenance and decor to self health and leisure products or services in under one roof.

The Home & Lifestyle Show runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday at Genesis Place in Airdrie. Come join the rest of us as we all plan out the homes we want to live in and the lifestyles we want to live.
