Lac La Biche curler with St. Albert skip on win streak at senior nationals

Barry Chwedoruk and Team Alberta take 7-0 win streak into Friday games

LAC LA BICHE - Curler Barry Chwedoruk and a Lac La Biche Curling Club rink is representing Alberta at the 2021 Everest Seniors Championships taking place in Sault Ste. Marie this week.

Chwedoruk is playing third on the Lac La Biche Curling Club Team Alberta rink skipped by St. Albert's Wade White. Dan Holowaychuk is playing second and the lead is George White. The team's entrance at the nationals is their fifth-straight trip to the championships, winning the event in 2017 and going on to win at the World Senior Championships in 2018.  In 2019, the rink earned a bronze medal at the national event. 

The Team Alberta crew is taking a perfect 7-0 record into their next games on Friday, wrapping up the qualifying rounds of the championships.

The Team Alberta win over Northern Ontario on Wednesday afternoon was part of the livestream schedule. The semifinals and finals will be livestreamed on Saturday.

The Team Alberta women's team taking part in the senior championships is skipped by Cheryl Bernard of Calgary's Glencoe Curling Club. As of Thursday afternoon, going into their next match, the women's rink had a record of 5-2.

The championship tourney runs to Dec. 11. The winning teams in both mens and women's events will go on to represent Canada at the World Senior Curling Championships. A date and location for the Worlds was not known by the first edition of this article. Last year's world event was scheduled to take place in Kelowna, but was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
