In just one day, Airdronians managed to donate more than 34,000 pounds of food during this year's Airdrie City Wide Food Drive Sept. 14. The Airdrie Food Bank (AFB) "couldn't be more thankful" for the community's support, according to a Sept. 25 press release.

"Food donations this time of year, when our shelves are at their lowest, means that we are able to provide continuing food support to those who struggle in our community," the release stated, adding the annual food drive allows AFB to work toward its vision "of being a community where no one is hungry."

The event was made possible thanks to volunteers from the LDS Church and their families, according to the release, as well as logistical support provided by Vitreous Glass, Costco Distribution Centre and XTL Transport. Another major factor that contributed to the food drive's success, the release noted, was the donations provided by Airdronians, themselves.

"Because of the community's support, we can ease the strain of hunger and provide hope for a better future to many in our community," the release stated.
