Elders Bruce and Deanna Starlight will be featured in the last Elder Talk in the series on Feb. 3.

The City of Airdrie council chambers will be the host venue for the Circle Connections for Reconciliation (CCFR) Elder Talk series with Bruce and Deanna Starlight of the Tsuut’ina Nation on February 3 at 2:00 pm.

The event is the fifth and final in the series of Elder Talks organized by the CCFR, a grassroots and community driven initiative organized by volunteers that work to bring indigenous and non-indigenous people together to build “genuine and ongoing reconciliation in the community” and is supported by the City of Airdrie.

Thus far, participants to the previous Elder Talks have heard from elders from the Blackfoot Kainai Nation, the Iethka Stoney Nation, Cree Nation, and Métis Nation. The featured elders of each talk tell stories and share advice with the audience and the CCFR have billed the Elder Talk series as a unique opportunity to gain valuable insight and to learn from unique experiences.

All of the talks in the series have been held in Airdrie and because of some of the sensitive subject matter that is shared, the events have been limited to attendees aged 16 and up. Each talk also provides a trained Trauma Support worker.

On their website the CCFR has said that the most important steps towards reconciliation is learning the truth and building genuine relationships. Perhaps there is no better way to do that than through listening to the Elder Talks.
