Langdon Days 2023 promises fun for all this weekend

This annual celebration, which has been a beloved tradition since 1945, will take place in the hamlet from July 21 to 23, offering a wide array of activities and entertainment for attendees of all ages.

The much-anticipated Langdon Days community celebration is just around the corner, promising a weekend full of family-friendly festivities for residents and visitors alike.

This annual celebration, which has been a beloved tradition since 1945, will take place in the hamlet from July 21 to 23, offering a wide array of activities and entertainment for attendees of all ages.

The event will kick off on Friday evening with a slo-pitch tournament, scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. at Iron Horse Fields and Langdon Park. Baseball enthusiasts and spectators can enjoy the thrilling games while taking in the lively atmosphere at both sets of diamonds.

As part of the festivities, beer gardens and food trucks will be available, providing a diverse range of culinary delights. The beer gardens, operating until 10 p.m., welcome supervised children to join in the fun.

To ensure the convenience and safety of participants, a shuttle service will be provided throughout the weekend, transporting attendees from Iron Horse Fields to the second beer garden location at Langdon Park.

While some elements of Langdon Days may differ from previous years, there is still much to look forward to. Chrissy Craig, the Langdon Community Association chair and one of the event coordinators, mentioned this year's celebration will focus on supporting local businesses.

“We are not having the nighttime celebration that we’ve had in the past, we are encouraging the community to visit our local business and support them instead,” said Craig.

Despite the challenges of securing food trucks during this busy time of the year, Craig is pleased to announce the participation of several vendors.

“We have some great food trucks. We have the Family Fry Guy, we have Meraki Cuisine, an ice cream truck, Wannawafel, mini donuts, snow cones and frozen treats, and B Ranch Smokehouse,” Craig said.

Saturday morning will continue the fun with the resumption of the slo-pitch tournament, as teams take to the field bright and early starting at 6 a.m. The action-packed day will continue with a free pancake breakfast for Langdon residents from 8 to 10 a.m., followed by a parade departing from Langdon School.

Throughout the day, attendees can explore the market from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., offering a variety of delightful goodies. Local, small, and home-based businesses will showcase their products, presenting an excellent opportunity for visitors to discover unique items and support the community.

Families with children are in for a treat, as they can enjoy the free pancake breakfast and the children's festival. From bouncy castles to bull riding, crafts to library stories, and toys to games, there will be an abundance of entertainment options for the little ones.

The children’s festival organizers have put in extra effort to ensure that children of all ages can engage in age-appropriate activities and have a memorable experience.

“We have so much for the families on Saturday, it’s going to be a great day,” Craig said. “We start off with a free pancake breakfast and there is the parade, after that the fire hall is doing tours and they are doing a free family barbecue and you can go check out the fire trucks.”

Saturday's Langdon Days celebration will come to a close with a fireworks display at 11 p.m. after the sun sets.

On the final day, the slo-pitch tournament will get underway at a slightly later time, with games starting at 8 a.m.

“There are 32 teams playing and it ranges from those who just want to get out and have fun to some really competitive teams, so it’s always a great time to watch,” Craig said.

As one of the final weekend’s attractions, car enthusiasts will have the opportunity to admire a captivating car show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Langdon School. Spectators can marvel at the classic and modern vehicles on display, appreciating the craftsmanship and passion of their owners.
