"Love to Know You" singles mixer at the library on Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day is fast approaching and what better way to usher in what has become a day to celebrate romance, then to read a romance novel or, even better, attend an evening of fun for singles.

We’re calling our little shindig “Love to Know You,” and it happens at Airdrie Public Library on Wednesday, February 14, at 7 p.m.

Join other Airdrie singles, ages 18+, for an evening where you will have to allow yourself to be a little playful.

This is an inclusive night of games — but not board games — more like the mixers you might have done on a work retreat but infinitely cooler.

These aren’t sexy games, so no need to worry about baring it all — physically — or even emotionally.

We’ve chosen games to get you off your feet to discover new friends through curated movement games (non-touch) intended to be fun and encourage new connections.

If you are a bit shy, tired of the face-to-face intensity of speed dating, or want something different from talking at a coffee shop or local pub you might find this event refreshing.

There will be post-game chat time for refreshments and mingling.

Registration is online, but you don’t need a library card to participate.

When you sign up, you’ll be encouraged to come prepared (i.e.: dress for success) and to provide some fun, but not personal, information.

While you’re in the library, check out our modest collection of romance literature.

They have steamy cover illustrations and salacious titles like Wild Night in Texas, Forever Starts Now, and Love Blooms.

We have an even larger online selection in eAudio, and eBook formats.

According to the WordsRated, a non-commercial international research data and analytics group, sales of romantic novels generated $1.44 billion U.S. in 2022, making them the highest-earning genre in fiction.

This equates to forty-seven million books in print and digital format.
