The George McDougall High School gymnasium was packed with couches, TVs and students pedalling stationary bicycles April 16 to 18, when the school hosted the ninth annual Ride of the Mustang bikeathon.

In teams, students took turns pedalling stationary bikes, collectively, for 48 hours, often while performing other tasks, such as studying or playing video games. Students camped out in the gymnasium on sofas and armchairs while they waited for their turns.

The annual initiative, which started at George McDougall in 2010, raises money for the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation. The event has raised more than $800,000 in the past nine years.
