Airdrie is reporting 282 active COVID-19 cases, down 27 from Dec. 17.

According to airdrie.ca, there has been a total of 1,335 cases in Airdrie. Of those cases, 1,045 have recovered, 282 are active and eight deaths have been reported. There is a current infection rate of 402 per 100,000 population, down 38 from the previous day.

Six Airdrie schools are currently listed on the provincial school status map for COVID-19. Herons Crossing School, Bert Church High School and École Edwards Elementary School are listed under "watch" with five or more active cases, while W.H. Croxford High School, Good Shepherd School and Ralph McCall School are listed under "open," with two to four active cases.

Outside the city, Rocky View County (RVC) has reported four new recoveries, bringing the county's active case count to 121. RVC's case rate is currently 279 cases per 100,000 population. 

In Chestermere, there are currently 80 active cases – up one from  Dec. 17 – while Cochrane is reporting 53 cases, which is one fewer than the day before.

Two schools in Chestermere are listed on the Alberta government's COVID-19 school status map – Chestermere High School and Chestermere Lake Middle School are currently under watch. On the west side of the county, Springbank Community High School has been added to the list under open status.

Provincially, according to Alberta.ca, there have been a total of 86,168 confirmed cases of the virus. Of those cases, 19,865 are considered active, 65,513 people have recovered, 763 patients are in hospital and 138 are in intensive care units. The province has recorded a total of 790 deaths due to COVID-19 – including a record-high of 30 reported during the Dec. 17 daily briefing.

Chief medical health officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw reminded Albertans to limit in-person gatherings to only those in the immediate household during holiday celebrations during her most recent briefing.

"For those outside your household, consider gathering family and friends together over Zoom for a virtual holiday meal," she said. "Nurture your spirit by attending a holiday service online, getting out in nature or enjoying the festive holiday lights and decorations around your neighbourhood.
