UPDATE: RVC responds to second fire at Highline Mushrooms in Crossfield

Rocky View County Fire Services responded to the second fire this year at Highline Mushrooms in Crossfield on July 21. Photos depict multiple fire and emergency vehicles attended the facility. 

Fire crews and investigators responded to a fire at the facility just south of Crossfield on Jan. 23 this year, with multiple fire crews responding from Crossfield, Airdrie, Rocky View County, and Carstairs. 

Ben Niven, Crossfield's fire chief, said the Jan. 23 fire was "fully involved" and took most of the afternoon to extinguish the flames. Crews were still on scene the day afterward to put out any potential hot spots.

Update July 21 at 3:29 p.m.

Emergency Medical Services confirmed that they received a call to Range Road 293, the Highline Mushroom plant, just before 11:30 a.m. on July 21.

An ambulance was dispatched to the mushroom facility and a group of employees was accessed for injuries as a precautionary measure. No injuries were reported. 

Update July 22 at 10:48 a.m. 

A representative from the Rocky View County Fire Department said they received a call regarding the Highline Mushroom facility fire at 11:21 on July 21. 

The structural fire originated from the air handling units located on the roof of the building, which then caused smoke to spread throughout the building. 

The fire was contained to the air handling unit, which did receive substantial damage. However, the rest of the facility was not damaged, aside from some extension and electrical cords. 

The incident is still under investigation and as of press time, no details regarding how the fire started or the estimated cost of damages have been released. 

Fire crews from Crossfield, Airdrie, and Balzac responded to the fire.
