After going without a local murder for decades – if not longer – Langdon has now reported its second homicide in the span of nine months.

According to Strathmore and Langdon RCMP, Mounties from the two neighbouring detachments responded to a 911 call from a residence in the southeast Rocky View County hamlet on May 26 just after noon.

"Upon arrival, a female was located unresponsive," stated the press release, adding she was taken to a Calgary hospital in serious condition.

A 31-year-old male, a resident of Langdon, was arrested at the scene.

On June 7, RCMP stated the female victim succumbed to her injuries and died in hospital. As a result, she will be taken for an autopsy at the Chief Medical Examiners office in Calgary on June 8.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken carriage of this investigation, with the assistance of Strathmore and Langdon RCMP, and the RCMP Forensic Identification Unit. The investigation continues and charges are pending. An update will be provided when further details can be released.

While Langdon has been historically sheltered from being the site of serious crimes, the woman's death continues a morbid trend in the hamlet of more than 5,000 people. It comes after a homicide victim was found in burning vehicle near Langdon in November 2022, and after the targeted, fatal shooting of former Calgary gang member Trong Minh Nguyen in October 2022.
