Airdrie-East MLA Angela Pitt said she is elated with Friday’s announcement from Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides and Premier Danielle Smith that Rocky View Schools (RVS) will receive funding to construct two new K-8 public schools in the city.

“I am thrilled about the investments in Budget 2024 for two additional schools in Airdrie,” she said in a statement released to the Airdrie City View Friday evening. “This is an investment in the future of our community. As more people come to call Airdrie their home, our government is dedicated to ensuring Airdrie families have the resources they need to grow and prosper.”

Pitt said her government acknowledges the clear need for new schools in Airdrie to help address local enrolment pressures.

“We have heard the insights and concerns of our education workers, and we are confident that the two new Kindergarten to grade 8 schools will help alleviate current and future pressures on the existing schools in our community,” she said. “The new schools in Windsong and Bayview will help ensure that there is ample space and resources for each student to receive a quality education.”

Pitt went on to praise RVS educators and families, who have been dealing with overcrowding in Airdrie schools for some time, for their perseverance, and for their dedication to providing quality education to local students despite sometimes challenging circumstances.

“I am so grateful for all the teachers, principals, educational aids, and other support staff who provide high-quality education and support for our students,” she said. “Our United Conservative government is looking forward to the positive changes that will be experienced by families throughout our communities, because of these investments.”
