The City of Airdrie is celebrating after its Economic Development department was recognized at an Economic Developers Alberta (EDA) awards ceremony in Banff April 4.
According to a press release issued by the City, the team received an Award of Excellence in the Community Economic Development category for the creation of Airdrie's Economic Strategy. The strategy was launched during National Small Business Week in October 2018.
"We are very proud to be recognized for the work we're doing to improve our community," said Sara Chamberlain, project manager and Economic Development officer.
Per the release, the 10-year strategy is, "the culmination of two years of extensive engagement and consultation with businesses and residents who know Airdrie best."
"The strategy, which was a truly collaborative effort, is designed to cultivate a sustainable economic future by embracing what we heard makes Airdrie great, while building on the potential we have to create a better future," Chamberlain said.
The strategy lays out three key objectives - The Place to Be, Right for Business and A Connected Community. The objectives are intended to build on the community's strengths while addressing challenges and seizing opportunities.
The Award of Excellence handed out by the EDA, according to the press release, is meant to honour individuals in Alberta for their contribution to the Economic Development field, and to honour communities for excellence in business retention and economic development.
EDA – a not-for-profit organization governed by a volunteer board of directors – is the only professional organization in the province dedicated to advancing the profession through networking opportunities, professional development and information.
