The Airdrie Flying Club will host its fifth annual Kids’ Day event where kids can get sky high inside the seat of a plane.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 28, at the Airdrie Airpark, youngsters will be able to ride in Cessnas, Grummans, Pipers and other aircrafts, and experience the world from a new perspective.
“It’s to educate and instil an interest in aviation,” said Richard Wiskar, a pilot for the event and Airdrie Flying Club member.
“Many kids don’t ever have the chance to fly in a small airplane. It’s really different than a commercial airliner.”
Kids can register for the free event at the Airdrie Flying Club website and choose a time that works best for them.
Junior aviators will be given a 15-minute aerial tour of Airdrie and area thousands of feet in the air.
“It’s really exciting,” said Wiskar. “We just want to give them a chance to come out and try something new.”
Participants will get to learn about aviation safety, walk around a real airplane and receive a briefing on how a plane works and is controlled.
