After two quick wins on opening night of the 2024 Alberta Female Hockey League (AFHL) provincial championship, the Airdrie Lighting U15 AA Girls would lose their next three games, including the bronze medal match to Calgary Fire Red 4-0.

The Lightning, who finished the regular season atop the league standings with a 25-3-3 record, fell well short of championship gold on home ice. The Lightning had only lost three games all year, but after a blowout 7-1 win over Lloydminster Richardson Jewellery Steelers, the Lightning would lose three straight. On Friday, the Lightning fell to the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs in overtime 4-3, and then lost again to Edmonton Pandas Black 5-2.

In the bronze medal game, Calgary Fire Red got the best of the Lightning once again, keeping the provincial host Lightning from the podium. In the final, Edmonton Pandas Black defeated Red Deer 3-1 to claim the provincial crown.
