Blow off some steam at Pioneer Acres

If you are interested in the history of engines and the power of yesteryear, you’ll love the Blow Off Some Steam event at Pioneer Acres, Aug. 20 and 21.

If you are interested in the history of engines and the power of yesteryear, you’ll love the Blow Off Some Steam event at Pioneer Acres, Aug. 20 and 21.

The event will include many stationary and portable steam engines and will feature a 65 HP Case steam tractor.

There will be a concession and all regular exhibits will also be open beginning at 9 a.m. For more information, visit www.pioneeracres.ab.ca.

Library news

• Plus 50 Book Club - Meetings take place the last Thursday of every month. Only the first 10 registrants are accepted.

The next two books are The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson.

• One on One Computer Training - Free service will teach Facebook, how to do more effective Internet searches, how to use Microsoft Word. The sessions will take place Tuesday mornings from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Kid Krazy - Aug. 24 from 2 to 3 p.m. will be another challenging game of Kids Jeopardy. Test your knowledge of planets, world buildings and more.

• Story Time Saturdays – Up to four years old begins at 11:30 a.m. and ages 5-8 runs from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

• Learn a new language - Interactive software is available with a library membership. Come to the library anytime to find out more information.

• Library trustee positions are available. Call Trudy at 403-935-4906 if you would like to know more about this rewarding volunteer opportunity.

Recreation centre news

Two upcoming fundraising fun nights include Cat Jahnke (with Claire Reilly Roe) performing on Aug. 26 at 8 p.m. and Irricana Rocks Centennial Night on Sept. 3 featuring Bad Nayburs and Mad Quadrants.

Farmers’ market

There are two Farmers’ Markets left this year - Aug. 27 and Sept. 10 at 1 p.m.

Fresh vegetables will be available and the ongoing garage sale will continue at the Farmers’ Market held at the Grasshopper Gallery.

Glee club

A brand new Glee club for ages 12 and up is starting in Irricana.

Calgary Corn Maze

The last chance to register for a trip to the Calgary Corn Maze is Aug. 16 by 4 p.m.

Residents interested in the trip on Aug. 17, can register at the Village office or by calling 403-947-3774.

The $30 registration fee includes the bus and admission charges. Bring a bag lunch.

Community connections

Beiseker Community School is hosting a community connections evening from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Sept. 15.

This great evening allows local organizations to showcase their happenings and provides an opportunity to register local children for fall sports.

Beiseker Community School teachers will also be on hand for a meet the teacher night.

All Irricana and Beiseker groups are urged to register a table and everyone is welcome to this free meet and greet informational event.
