Candidate wants to be the " voice of Airdrie residents"

Kevin Hughes has announced that he has plans to run for alderman in the October election.

Hughes has been interested in politics for years and feels he will be the voice Airdrie residents are looking for to represent them on City council.

“I am not afraid to ask the tough questions that need to be asked and will also not shy away from answering why I made the decision I made,” he said.

“I have no ties to any organization in Airdrie so I will act on the best interest of all residents not just one or two organizations within the city.”

Hughes said there are a number of important issues that need to be addressed by the next council.

Hughes has lived in Airdrie for eight years and has managed a business in the city for the last five years.

He has been vice president for Airdrie Little League and also treasurer for Meadowbrook Middle School Parent Council.

“We need to re-look at the proposed 12 per cent tax increase for 2011,” he said.

“We must ask city staff to go back to the drawing board and see where we can cut spending and bring in a more reasonable increase.”

Hughes feels that City council, “needs to ensure we know where every single dollar of taxpayers’ money is being spent and make sure every dollar is spent wisely.”

Hughes feels that with the city’s population on a steady rise, council need to ensure that residents have a transit system that will not only be financially feasible, but also serve the needs of residents.

If elected he said he would like to sit down with all interested parties and formulate a plan to put in place a transit system that will last for the next five to 10 years.

“If you are looking for a fiscally responsible alderman that will ensure the tough question are not only asked but answered as well, then I ask you to give me your vote,” he said.
