Council has no objections to coalbed methane welll

Encana is proposing a new wellsite within 1.5 kilometres of the town, and council was given the opportunity to address the proposal with any concerns Irricana might have.

Given that the location of the proposed conventional coal bed methane well is just off of Highway 9, where no annexation is being considered, council will not object to the well.

Calgary Regional Airshed has invited Irricana to become part of the association by payment of a $124.30 membership fee.

Council recalled that the information provided in a previous presentation from this organization advised that Irricana is not in an area that is affected by poor air quality and felt that as the airshed covers a broad area, this is something that might be of interest to the Calgary Regional Partnership, of which Irricana is a member.

Therefore Irricana will not take out an individual membership at this time.

Irricana council received a letter from Alberta Children’s and Youth Services requesting the Town’s assistance in encouraging suitable local individuals to submit an application to serve on either the Child and Family Services Authority or on one of the Ministry’s appeal boards. Council will forward this information to the Community Services Board.

Subsequently, during the question and answer period, some interest was expressed about obtaining more information on what the requirements of serving in this capacity would be. More information can be found at www.child.alberta.ca

Chief Administrative Officer Carol White informed council that a joint meeting has been held with the Town’s engineers and affected property owners to find a solution to drainage problems from the Madison and Pioneer developments, east and southeast of town.

All indications are that the necessary work should be accomplished by town employees and equipment.

Due to the municipal election, there will be no council meeting on Oct. 18. Council has set Nov. 1 as the date for the Irricana Council organizational meeting and the first regular meeting of those elected.

The next meeting of council is Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in council chambers. The public is welcome. This will be the second last meeting before the election.
