Environment Canada issues special weather statement for Airdrie

A special weather statement calls for snow and below-average temperatures to replace the record-breaking warmth this coming weekend.
The City’s roads department is preparing Airdrie’s snow plows and workers for winter storms like this one last year.

Winter weather is on its way to the Airdrie region, with 15 to 25 centimetres of snow possible this week.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on March 18 for Airdrie and surrounding areas.

After record-breaking warmth, snow and colder-than average temperatures are expected to arrive on Tuesday and last through the week, with snowfall beginning on Tuesday night.

Snowfall will intensify on Wednesday and continue until Friday morning, the agency said, with 15 to 25 centimetres of snow expected in parts of western and southern Alberta.

Higher amounts are possible over the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains.

The high on Wednesday is expected to be –6 C, dipping to –10 C by the weekend, and overnight lows will be steady at around –14 C.

Average highs this time of year are 4 C.
