CAO Alvin Melton informed council that water usage was up during the August long weekend, due to a number of factors.
He said water usage is up by 300 cubic metres due to fire department training and the fact that the Drumheller Water Treatment Plan was not working, and Irricana staff was required to monitor and add chlorine as needed.
This put a strain on the system and a second pump had to be brought online to ensure adequate pressure. According to Melton, Irricana used 7,023 cubic metres of water in June, this equates to 482 litres per household.
The hours of the splash park have been changed to allow for morning usage. It is now open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
According to a recent survey, two thirds of the town residents prefer to get their utility bills on a bi-monthly basis, so this practice will continue. The town is now conducting a survey to determine if residents would like the Town to accept Visa and Mastercard for payments.
Melton said he is hoping to create partnerships created between local community groups, the Rockyview Foundation and the Town to start the process of getting seniors’ housing in Irricana. He has been in contact with the KIK 50 Plus group and the Rocky View Foundation to begin talks.
Occupational Health and Safety has investigated the Centennial Centre and has issued an order that workers have to wear masks when entering the basement until the mold has been taken care of by a contractor trained in mold abatement.
Capital plan tabled
With one member of council absent and more information deemed necessary to make a decision, the Capital Plan that was scheduled to be drafted at the meeting was tabled. The next meeting of Irricana council will be Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
