Before he was killed in February 2020, Kalix Langenau was a hockey goalie coach for the Explosive Edge in Airdrie.

The Kalix Legacy Foundation is ready for another blockbuster weekend from June 21 to 22 to raise money for young athletes in need.

As always, the event is in honour of former Airdrie goalie Kalix Langenau, who died tragically in 2020.

On June 21, the weekend will hit off with the Kalix Legacy Golf Charity Classic at Collicutt Siding Golf Course at 1:00 p.m.

Kalix Legacy Foundation president John Langenau said participants can expect a fun day of golf alongside celebrities such as Brendan Mikkelson, former Calgary Flames defenceman, and a silent auction will be ongoing throughout the whole weekend.

Then, on June 22, the Kalix Legacy Foundation will hit the ice at the Ron Ebbesen Arena for its celebrity charity hockey game at 12:30 p.m.

Langeau said residents of Airdrie and surrounding communities are encouraged to come watch for free, but anybody can register to play with the celebrities for $500 that goes directly to helping youth athletes as well.

St. Louis Blues forward Jake Neighbours and former NHL player Morris Lukowich are confirmed for the charity game, and more are to be announced soon according to Langenau.

“There will be an auction, puck toss, crowd prizes, and giveaways,” said Langenau. “It’s a great time with great people.”

To cap off the fundraising weekend, the Kalix Legacy Charity Classic Celebration Banquet will bring together participants, celebrities, and sponsors for dinner at 6:30 PM MDT at 525 Restaurant and Patio.

Langenau appreciates the Airdrie community and surrounding residents for showing their support year in and year out for his late son Kalix.

The weekend fundraiser is a chance for the community to remember the positive impact Kalix had on young athletes, and Langenau hopes that even more families can launch into local sports with the help of the community and the foundation.
