A kitchen fire inside an Airdrie business forced nearly a dozen occupants to evacuate and caused thousands of dollars in damages, the Airdrie Fire Department (AFD) claimed in a news release Thursday.

The fire took place Wednesday, April 3, inside the building of a local business located at 2914 Kingsview Blvd SE. According to the AFD, the cause of the fire was unattended commercial cooking being done on the business's first floor. 14 firefighters responded after an activated fire alarm notified the business alarm monitoring company.

According to the AFD, the building fire suppression system successfully doused the fires and limited the spread of the flames. 11 people were inside the business when the alarms went off and made it outside as the AFD arrived.

The AFD estimated that the fire caused $5,000 worth of damages to the building.
