A motion to consider shortening the term of Rocky View County council’s mayor as well as committee terms was quashed on Nov. 30.
The motion brought forward by Division 4 councillor Samanntha Wright at council's previous meeting was not considered after it was determined the issue had been discussed already over the last six months. A point of order determined council did not have to consider it again and the motion was dismissed.
At the Nov. 9 meeting Wright introduced the motion, which aimed to reduce the duration of the terms for RVC's mayor, as well as council boards, committee chair, and vice-chair positions, from two years to one year.
Reducing council from nine members to seven is one reason the term-length for should be considered, Wright said.
As per the decision, council will continue to vote on the mayor and committee appointments every two years.
