After an intensive search for missing Airdrie man Jordan Darda, RCMP confirmed his body was found in Banff National Park, Sept. 16.
Darda, 20, was found face down in the shallow waters of Norman Creek just before 2 p.m. at the bottom of a canyon, two kilometres from his abandoned pick-up truck.
Police don’t suspect foul play and say nothing indicates he fell down the canyon into the water. An autopsy is needed to reveal the cause of death.
“It’ll be some time before we can make that determination,” said Cst. Francine Hennelly of the Airdrie RCMP.
Darda went camping by himself over the Labour Day weekend and was scheduled to return home Sept.6. His family filed a missing persons report when he didn’t return by Sept. 9.
The last time he was heard from was when he text-messaged friends, saying he had arrived at his campsite.
After a group of friends cancelled their trip, Darda decided he would go camping by himself. It is believed Darda’s only supplies were a pup tent and an axe. He did not have any warm clothing with him.
His mother Darlene called the trip “out of character” and said he wasn’t “a mountain man.”
A funeral will be held for Darda in Edmonton on Sept. 24.
