The Beiseker RCMP is still investigating a fatal collision that took a man’s life just after midnight, Oct. 15 on Highway 9 near Range Road 270.

A 29-year-old man from Calgary was struck by one vehicle and again by a second. Paramedics attended to the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the first accident.

RCMP are asking for the public to come forward with any information about a grey four-door vehicle parked on the side of Highway 9 in the southbound lane between midnight and 1 a.m. It is believed that one passing vehicle may have stopped and its driver or passenger offered to get gas for the stranded vehicle.

Strathmore RCMP took two inebriated men into custody Oct. 20 after a house in Langdon was hit by five bullets. The men were arrested and police seized a firearm at a neighbouring residence.

A person inside the residence told police they had been hit by metal debris. The individual wasn’t injured, but the home sustained damage. Firearm-related charges are now pending against the men.

Many residents of the lake town woke up Oct. 12 to find their vehicles had been broken into overnight.

Suspects broke into four unlocked cars parked along West Chestermere Drive. Stolen items include ladies golf clubs, an upholstery stapler, a GPS, a cell phone charger and a small amount of change. A car in the Stonemere Point area was unlawfully entered and personal documents were stolen.

Residents are encouraged to lock their vehicles overnight and remove valuables from plain sight. Chestermere RCMP say residents should contact police if they spot suspicious activity near vehicles, as well.

Airdrie RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit discovered another marijuana grow-op, this time in the Canals neighbourhood, Oct. 4. It was the third drug bust in the past three months.

The home was found to have 435 plants totalling more than $540,000 worth of marijuana.

The bust was done in cooperation with the Calgary Police Service’s Emergency Response Team and the Airdrie RCMP’s General Duty officers.

“Due to the significant fire risk to the homes and families in the area, police decided to expedite the search as the house was drawing excessive power and was a serious fire risk,” said Const. Robert Frizzell. “No individuals were arrested during the execution of the warrant and no police or public were harmed.”

On Aug. 15, Airdrie RCMP busted a grow-op on Main Street worth $7,500 and another on Sept. 21 in King’s Heights worth $80,000.

No arrests were made in this most recent bust, however Airdrie RCMP are encouraging the public to call its new anonymous drug tip line at 403-945-7222 with information that may lead to an arrest.

Possible indicators of a grow-op include strong smells coming from the home, unkept yards, windows covered with tinfoil or black bags, condensation on windows, residences appears to be unlived in, people coming and going at odd hours and buzzing or humming sounds from inside.

At about 4 a.m. on Oct. 12, a Chestermere homeowner awoke to the sound of his garage door opening. He looked outside his window to see suspects stealing his work truck parked in front of his house.

Chestermere RCMP members responded to the area and found the truck being driven down a long driveway near the Trans-Canada Highway.

The driver refused to stop after police signaled the person to do so. Shortly after, the driver attempted to swerve into a police car.

Officers backed off when the driver began travelling at a high rate of speed. The last known location of the driver was near Calgary.

The truck is a white 2007 Chevrolet Denali with licence plate YYW-633.

If you have information on any unsolved crime, contact your local RCMP detachment or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
