A distressed photographer west of Cochrane called police Sept. 3 after spotting a dead body floating in a pond near Highway 1 and Scott Lake Hill.

The body was not pulled from the pond until the next day due to the difficult terrain. RCMP worked with Kananaskis Search and Rescue to help recover the body, which was transported to the Calgary Medical Examiners office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. However, examiners announced Sept. 6 they couldn’t determine a cause or his identity.

The male is described as 45 to 55 years old, Caucasian, wearing a black wool coat, black pants and gators and a winter hat with earflaps.

People are asked to call Cochrane RCMP if they have information on the case.

Police had to stop a Greyhound bus travelling west into Calgary, Sept. 5, after multiple passengers were overheard talking about brandishing firearms.

A concerned passenger told the Greyhound bus driver who called RCMP. A short while later, police stopped the bus at the intersection of Highway 791 and the Trans-Canada Highway near Chestermere.

“The bus was stopped, their bags and everything was checked and there was nothing of any sort,” said Sgt. Kevin Reilly of Strathmore’s RCMP. “They were checked personally, too.”

After no weapons or firearms were found, the bus continued on its route into Calgary and the men were allowed to continue their trip. No charges were laid.

Sometime overnight between Sept. 3 and 4, there was a break and enter at the Boulder Creek Golf Course in Langdon.

Thieves made off with five golf carts totalling $40,000 in value.

The criminals broke into an area containing the carts and drove through the fence with the stolen recreation vehicles.

If you have information on any unsolved crime, call your local RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
