Police Notebook: Mail reported missing, suspect charged

On Oct. 13, the Airdrie RCMP General Investigation Section concluded a joint investigation with Canada Post, into an allegation of mail theft. RCMP, in conjunction with postal inspectors, followed up on a tip from the public and determined that a mail carrier had failed to deliver multiple pieces of mail to Calgary residents.

John Edwin Keim, 40, of Airdrie, has been charged with 108 counts of theft of mail, one count of possession of stolen property and one count of a public servant refusing to deliver property.

Keim will appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on Nov. 10 to answer to these charges.

Sometime between midnight and 8 a.m. on the morning of Oct. 25, the Airdrie Rural RCMP responded to a complaint of a break and enter at Crossfield’s Side Street Café.

Investigators believe that suspects smashed through the front glass windows to gain entry into the building.

An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the business, along with various food products.

The Airdrie Rural RCMP and Calgary RCMP Forensic Identification Services continue to investigate this matter.

The Airdrie RCMP is investigating a theft that occurred at the Airdrie Co-op Wine & Spirits around 6 p.m. on Oct. 19.

Staff reported that two females stole four bottles of hard liquor and eight bottles of wine with an estimated value of $400.

One suspect is described as a native female, between 30 to 35 years of age. She is said to have a heavy build, dark hair in a ponytail, wearing a dark full-length dress with sunglasses on her head.

The other suspect is described as a native female, 35 to 45 years of age with a heavy build, dark hair in a ponytail, wearing a dark hoodie, dark pants, and sunglasses on her head.
