Throughout the month of December, an unknown man entered The Real Canadian Liquor Store on Veterans Boulevard and stole multiple bottles of liquor over many visits.
The suspect entered the store, selected a few bottles of liquor and then proceeded to a more reclusive spot where he concealed the bottles in a backpack. The man selected additional items and proceeded to the checkout where he paid for those items. He left the store without paying for the concealed merchandise.
Upon reviewing the video footage, police believe he has committed this type of theft at least eight times in the last month. The man is described as a Caucasian, about 6’2” tall with an average build. He was wearing dark clothing with a grey toque with a black backpack.
On Jan. 4 at 4 a.m., the Airdrie RCMP searched a residence in Balzac. Two people were arrested and 234 marijuana plants, worth about $280,800, were seized.
The Airdrie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) completed an extensive investigation of the house and with the assistance of Chestermere RCMP and Airdrie Rural RCMP, conducted a traffic stop and arrested two men seen leaving the residence.
Thirty-one-year-old Rajrupinder Singh Gosal and 35-year-old David Joseph Ivey of Calgary were arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Police then successfully obtained a search warrant for the residence the two suspects were seen leaving. The men face charges of production of a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking and theft of electricity. The grow operation was located on multiple levels of the house and included plants of varying maturity. Police believe a significant number of marijuana plants were removed prior to the search. There were no injuries to the suspects or law enforcement during the execution of this warrant.
