The 12-acre Bow RiversEdge Campground (BRC) may soon be expanding.
Rocky View County councillors directed staff to begin working with the Bow RiversEdge Campground Association to increase its size by four acres, April 19.
The four acres will come from a depleted portion of a nearby County-owned gravel pit, and will increase the 12-acre campground’s capacity by about 32 sites.
“This is a natural progression for the society,” said Councillor Paul McLean. “This is a community reinvestment program not a commercial venture, that is why I am supporting this.”
The BRC is a non-profit organization located in Bow Valley near the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre. All profits generated through the campground are given back to the community.
Since its inception in 1992, the BRC has given more than $1 million back to the community.
According to Alex Baum of the BRC, the added sites will increase the organization’s profits by about 30 per cent.
“With the increase in revenue, we believe we can internally fund this project,” he said.
