According to alderman hopeful Vernon Sinnott, the City can be run more effectively than it has been.

“I feel I would be able to run the City efficiently,” said Sinnott, who has lived in Airdrie for seven years.

“There is always room for improvement and I would like to help.”

He said he feels City council’s primary issue is to keep taxes low.

“With the economy the way it is today, lower taxes will help generate business,” said the 57-year-old.

“Proper urban and park planning are very important issues as well. I am looking forward to helping Airdrie become a more vibrant city.”

Sinnott has worked with municipal governments before, as the recreational coordinator for a small community in the Northwest Territories and was the Alberta Winter Games coordinator for the City of St. Albert in 1979.

In Airdrie, Sinnott is the organizer for the Terry Fox Run.

“It is important to give back and volunteer whenever you can,” said Sinnott.

Sinnott is an account executive for a trade show company and currently handles the Airdrie Home and Garden Show. He feels his biggest challenge will be learning the ropes of council.

“As a recreation coordinator, you see what people enjoy and as a politician, I will be more involved with people who are disgruntled, but I’ve always been really good at planning and implementing things.”

Sinnott describes himself as dedicated, honest, straightforward and personable.

“My past experience as an executive is a strength and my years of experience in business would be very beneficial to the City,” he said.

“We need strong leadership to help make sure the city develops in the proper fashion.”
