Rocky View Schools (RVS) will be changing grade levels at almost all schools city-wide in 2025 to respond to enrolment pressures.
The RVS Board of Trustees voted on April 25 to adjust almost every school, except Cooper’s Crossing School, up by one grade level.
That means high schools will now only serve grades 10 to 12 citywide.
This will also mean Kindergarten to grade 6 will all be together, and grade 7 to 9.
The Board also voted to adjust some school boundaries to meet the needs of the existing space crunch. Several Airdrie communities will be redesignated to different schools to address enrolment pressures and optimize space utilization. And families living in central Airdrie will no longer have high school of choice options.
No attendance boundary changes will be made for French Immersion or Christian programs. The Christian program will be extended to Grade 9 (it currently ends at Grade 8).
None of these changes will be implemented until the Fall of 2025.
“Through the engagement, we heard our communities value keeping neighbourhoods and households together, minimizing disruption and balancing enrolments to achieve the greatest overall improvement of utilizations,” said Superintendent of Schools, Greg Luterbach. “We believe the Board's decision honours this feedback and provides the best solution to improve learning environments for all Airdrie students.”
