A Feb. 14 traffic stop on Highway 2 north of Airdrie led to a sizeable drug seizure by the Airdrie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), according to Cpl. Gina Slaney.

During the course of the traffic stop – which took place shortly before 1 a.m. – officers entered into a drug investigation and arrested a father and daughter from Olds for possession of controlled substances. The pair was travelling north, Slaney said, but could not comment on what prompted the traffic stop.

“A search of the vehicle incidental to arrest led to the seizure of 81.5 grams (g) of cocaine, 34.7 g of methamphetamine, 7.8 g of fentanyl, 55 tabs of LSD and approximately 220 other mixed prescription pills.”

Kayla Dougan, 21, was charged with eight criminal code charges – four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of failing to comply with release order conditions. She was remanded into custody, Slaney said and was scheduled to appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on March 4 (after press time).

Her father, 48-year-old Lee Dougan, was charged with four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. He was released and will appear in court on March 19.
