Two former Bert Church High School football players have inked their contracts to play in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) for the upcoming season.

According to a press release, linebacker Parker McKillop and defensive back Caleb Van Sluys played for the Bert Church Chargers football program before graduating in 2023.

The CJFL has 19 teams and is considered to be a development league for aspiring university or professional football players according to the release. McKillop and Van Sluys join six other Bert Church alumni currently active in the CJFL.

McKillop, team-honoured defensive backfield player of the year, signed with the Kamloops Broncos of the CJFL’s BC Conference.

Van Sluys, recipient of the team heart award in 2023, will be staying close to home with the Calgary Colts of the Prairie Conference.

Bert Church Chargers football coach Steve Larsen said in the press release that both players made remarkable impacts to the program, and they were pivotal to the success of the club during their time.

CJFL training camps begin in July according to the release.
