What's on the Agenda: March 18

Airdrie council will meet at 1 p.m. on March 18 for its regular council meeting.
City council met April 3 and declared April 15 to 21 Nation Volunteer Week in Airdrie.

Two bylaw changes will be presented prior to a public hearing at today’s regular council meeting in Airdrie.

The Procedure Bylaw and Committees Bylaw will establish a new Council Committee governance structure, while an amendment to the Emergency Management Bylaw will provide changes to the Code of Conduct Bylaws, the Airdrie Public Library Board Bylaw, the Airdrie Board of Youth Affairs Bylaw and the Community Requests Policy to support a new Council committee governance structure.

Then, a public hearing will be held to review a bylaw to amend Land Use Bylaw No. B-01/2016, by updating references to development and subdivision authorities, and to repeal the Airdrie Subdivision and Development Authority Bylaw No. B-34/2004.

Council will be asked to give three readings to the Bylaw.

Four items on the consent agenda follow the public hearing, including information regarding the upcoming 2024 municipal census, an update on the growth and success of the Airdrie Fair Access low-income subsidy program over the past year, an update on the Building Safer Communities Fund project, and the 2023 Fourth Quarter Cash and Investment Report.

Following a presentation on Volunteer Airdrie Society's partnership with the Drive Happiness Seniors Association to provide the Drive Happiness Seniors Assisted Transportation Program, council will be asked to consider providing financial assistance.

Then, Council is being provided with the preliminary 2023 Fourth Quarter Financial Update for information and is being asked to endorse the year-end operating surplus split.

Council will also be asked to endorse the City of Airdrie Sponsorship Policy, which provides a pathway for the City to generate additional revenue while safeguarding the City’s image, values and interests.

Part of the correspondence section, council is being asked to proclaim March 26 as Purple Day in Airdrie and light up City Hall in purple lights for Epilepsy awareness. Council is also being asked to proclaim March 31 as Transgender Day of Visibility in Airdrie and raise the transgender flag at Nose Creek Park, as well as proclaiming the month of June 2024 as Pride Month in Airdrie and raise the pride flag in Nose Creek Park between June 1 and 30 and illuminate City Hall in pride colours on June 22, 2024.

Airdrie council will meet at 1 p.m. for its regular council meeting.

Question Period is still part of the agenda, but per a change to this process in the fall of 2023, residents must register to ask a question during a regular council meeting. Contact Legislative Services for information on how to register.

A closed meeting will follow the regular meeting with topics including a policy update, a project update, a land update, a lease update, and a board appointment. Items are protected under section 24, 25, and 29 of Freedom of Information and Protection (FOIP) of the privacy act, under advice from officials and due to disclosure being harmful to economic and other interests of the public body.
