The Vancouver Canucks announced they had signed former Cochrane resident and former Airdrie Xtreme player Ty Mueller to a a three-year entry level NHL deal this week.
Mueller, 21, recently completed his junior season with the Omaha Mavericks (University of Nebraska-Omaha) of the NCAA, accumulating 26 points (11-15-26) and 33 penalty minutes in 40 games played. He set a collegiate career-high in both assists (15) and points (26) while tying his personal NCAA record with a +9 plus/minus rating. Mueller ranked tied for third on the team in points (26) and tied for second in power play goals (3).In 98 career NCAA games, all played with Omaha, the 5’11”, 195-pound left-shot forward notched 64 points (31-33-64) and 39 penalty minutes. Prior to his college career, the Cochrane, AB native played two seasons with the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, posting 41 points (14-27-41) in 65 games played.
Mueller was originally selected by Vancouver in the fourth round or105th overall at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
“Ty has continued to develop and take important steps forward since we drafted him," said Canucks GM Patrick Allvin. “He is a smart two-way hockey player who we look forward to working with as he makes the transition from college hockey to the pro game.”
