Playoffs are underway this week for Airdrie's public high-school basketball teams.

After the regular season wrapped up in mid-February, the Rocky View Sports Association (RVSA) quarterfinals were held on Feb. 28. In senior boys' action, the W.H. Croxford Cavaliers ousted their west Airdrie rivals, the George McDougall Mustangs, by a score of 93-62. Over in Cochrane, the host Cobras beat the Bert Church Chargers 90-55.

In senior girls' play, the Mustangs defeated the visiting Springbank Phoenix, 74-37. Across town, the Bert Church Chargers senior girls' team hosted the Bow Valley Bobcats of Cochrane on Tuesday night, losing 42-31.

The semi-finals for senior boys' and girls' teams get underway this evening (March 2). In the senior girls' division, the Cochrane Cobras will head to Airdrie to face George McDougall at 6 p.m., while the top-seed W.H. Croxford Cavaliers host the Bow Valley Bobcats at the same time.

An all-Cochrane battle will get underway Thursday night in the senior boys' semi-finals, with the Bobcats hosting the Cobras at 7 p.m. The other semi-final features the W.H. Croxford Cavaliers and the Chestermere Lakers. That game is taking place in Chestermere at 5 p.m.

The winners of those games will advance to the RVSA championship games on Saturday. The senior boys' final will be at Chestermere High School at 7 p.m., while the senior girls' game will be at 5 p.m. at a to-be-determined location.

Once the RVSA playoffs are wrapped up, the top teams will compete at the 3A or 4A South Central Zones championships the following weekend, with the winners at those tournaments qualifying for the subsequent Alberta Schools Athletic Association's (ASAA) provincial championships.
