GALLERY: George McDougall Mustangs down Chestermere Lakers in high-school soccer action

The host Mustangs took an early 3-0 lead over the visiting Lakers, quickly taking control of the game in the opening few minutes.

The George McDougall Mustangs boys' soccer team took down the Chestermere Lakers 5-1 on Thursday at Monklands Park, in one of their first games of the 2023 season.

The hosts took an early 3-0 lead over the visiting Lakers, quickly taking control of the game in the opening few minutes. While Chestermere was able to put a goal past the Mustangs, it was only a consolation as George Mac added two more goals to their total before the final whistle sounded.

Thanks to their win, the Mustangs have a 1-1-0 record now, after starting their season with a 2-1 defeat to their cross-town rivals, the Bert Church Chargers, on May 2.

Bert Church is currently first in the Rocky View Sports Association, still unbeaten with a 2-0-0 record. Their other game thus far was a 3-1 win on the road over the Springbank Phoenix on May 4.

George McDougall's next outing will be in Cochrane on May 9, where they will take on the Cobras.

The other Airdrie team in the RVSA soccer league is the W.H. Croxford Cavaliers. They're currently 0-1-0 after opening the 2023 campaign with a 2-1 loss to the Bow Valley Bobcats of Cochrane on May 2. The Cavaliers had a bye on May 4.
