SHIPPAGAN, N.B. — Police in New Brunswick say a 15-year-old boy has been arrested in the death of an 11-year-old boy who was hit in the face with a scooter.

RCMP Cpl. Hans Ouellette says police responded to reports of an assault with a weapon last Thursday outside a residence in the town of Shippagan, about 250 kilometres north of Moncton.

Ouellette said officers arrived to find the 11-year-old had been struck in the face with a kick scooter, allegedly by the 15-year-old.

He said the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries, and he died Saturday.

Ouellette said police arrested a 15-year-old boy today in connection with the incident, though he did not specify what charges he faces.

He said the accused is set to be released and that he will appear in provincial court in Bathurst on Jan. 26.
