FINCK, Erika (nee Woermbke)

Erika Finck of Airdrie, AB, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at the age of 93 years.

 

Erika was born on the May 24, 1930, to Magda and Heinrich Woermbke in Norderbrarup, Germany and grew up with her two brothers Heinz and Guenther.

 

After graduating from high school, she went to work on a farm with her training in home economics. This is where she met the love of her life, Klaus Finck. They married on October 6, 1950, in Rieseby, and farmed in Brookwisch-Krokau and raised five children together, Klaus-Otto, Matthias, Annekatrin, Wiebke, and Lena. In 1980, they immigrated to Beiseker, AB where they continued farming with their family. She was dedicated to her big family.

 

Erika enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, and knitting. She was a member of the senior’s club as well as the crocheting group. She also enjoyed many years of travel. In fall 2015, Erika moved to Fletcher Village in Airdrie where she participated in weekly shuffleboard and card games. She loved her afternoon ritual of coffee and cake for family and friends. In March 2021 she moved to Luxstone Manor, where she spent her final years.

 

Erika was predeceased by her husband Klaus, her daughter Wiebke, sons-in-law, Klaus and Jochen; her parents and brothers, sister-in-law Lena Hansohm, and brothers-in-law, Gerhard Hansohm and Arnold Finck.

 

Erika is survived by sons, Klaus-Otto (Anke) Finck and Matthias (Ortrud) Finck; daughter Annekatrin Finck, daughter Lena (Ken) Gratz, sisters-in-law Renate Finck and Hilde Woermbke; thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

 

A private service was held on Friday, June 23, 2023. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed at www.MHFH.com.
