Marianne Lorenz Obituary

Born Dec 15, 1964 – January 27, 2022

With great sadness I announce the passing of my beloved sister Marianne Evelyn Lorenz at the age of 58 at  Rimbey long-term care home on January 27, 2022, where she resided since September, 2022. Marianne was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Mervin Lorenz and brothers, Gary (Marianne) and Reynold (Anna). She leaves to mourn her 2 sisters, Myrla Johnson (Sam) and myself, Carla Veenstra (Tim) and two brothers, Robert and Dennis (Lyn), as well as many nieces and nephews. Although born with Down’s syndrome, Marianne lived a wonderfully full life! She worked for 20+ years at the Airdrie DQ and hated to miss a day of work.  She was a wonderful swimmer and bowler and won many, many medals and trophies in Special Olympic events over the years.  Marianne moved with Tim and I to Winfield, AB in 2018 upon retiring from the DQ in Airdrie.  After noticing that Marianne’s mental capacity was rapidly failing we moved her into a long-term care home in September 2022, where she was able to receive wonderful round the clock care that she required.  We celebrated Marianne’s birthday in December with a DQ cake and Christmas carols at the piano. She passed away just a month later.  Her death has left a big hole in our family.  We will miss her always smiling face.  Marianne has been cremated and laid to rest with our mother in Eyebrow, SK. A celebration of her life will be held at the Airdrie Woodside Senior’s Centre on Saturday September 9th at 6 PM. Put on your dancing shoes, as there will be a DJ!  Marianne will be celebrated with one of her favorite activities – dancing!
