NEUMANN, Bernhard (Bernie)

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Bernie Neumann announce his passing in Switzerland on February 22nd, 2024, while visiting family and friends.

Bernie was born April 22, 1951 in Rosrath, Germany and grew up on the family farm there.  He trained in Germany as a heavy-duty mechanic for farm machinery before immigrating to Canada in 1972 and continued mechanicing while pursuring his passion for German made cars.  His knowledge and expertise on Porsche’s became well known and a career in mechanicing for the Denon Team in the Rothman’s International Racing Series began.  He travelled the world for a few years with the team and this eventually led him to fit out his own Porsche 914/6.  Bernie competed in many races throughout Canada and the United States.

In the mid-80’s he sold his racing Porsche, but continued mechanicing for Continental Auto Body and also starting his own business Neumann Racing, where he continued to work on German made vehicles until his retirement.

Over the past few years Bernie faced many health challenges and did the best he could throughout.  He looked forward to this trip to Germany and Switzerland and had plans for the future!

Bernie is survived by brothers Erich Sr. (Anneliese), Herbert (Ingeborg), Wolfgang (Ingrid) and sisters Crystal, Leni (Wolfgang); and extended family in Canada, Germany and Australia.  He is pre-deceased by his parents Magdalena & Emil Neumann, sister Helga and nephew Michael.  Bernie will always be remembered by his family and circle of friends!

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date!
