The Rocky View Weekly's front-page story this week is about Beiseker's upcoming centennial celebrations, taking place June 10 to 12. We also have a few other stories about how the community will be marking the major milestone, which you can read in a section we've devoted to the centennial on pages x and y.

Like many community events, Beiseker's big birthday bash is technically a postponement – yet another event casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally slated to take place in June 2021, Beiseker has had to wait an extra year for a community-wide celebration of its centennial.

While that's understandably been disappointing to residents, our interview with Mayor Warren Wise made it evident that having an extra year to plan gave the event's organizing committee plenty of extra time to come up with some great ideas to mark what will technically be the village's 101st birthday.

There's a variety of fun activities planned for Beiseker this weekend, including a unique wedding-themed fashion show on June 10, which will highlight a century's worth of wedding attire, live music entertainment, tours of local amenities, a parade, a house-decorating contest, and much more.

Incorporated as a village in 1921 after Europeans settled the area in the early 20th century, Beiseker has managed to maintain it's rural roots and small-town charm throughout the last century. With many of the village's founding families still residing and farming in the area, Beiseker is a community that has held onto its agriculture-rich history.

We as a newsroom are excited to document the village's postponed centennial. Even if you do not live in the north Rocky View County region, we would encourage our readers to consider a trip to Beiseker this weekend to join in the festivities. Doing so would not only add to the festive nature of the community's celebration, but any dollars spent at Beiseker-based businesses would certainly benefit the village's local economy.

Happy 101st birthday, Beiseker!
