Rocky View County (RVC) council unanimously approved a redesignation for 4.32 acres south of Airdrie – north of Township Road 263 on the west side of Range Road 293A – during a regular meeting Dec. 10.

According to planner Oksana Newmen, the redesignation will facilitate the creation of a 2.03-acre residential parcel with a 2.29-acre remainder. The applicant, Sunny Johal, said the intent is to build a second residence for his family.

Newmen noted a narrow portion of the eastern part of the property is within Calgary International Airport’s 30-35 contour area of the Noise Exposure Forecast – a federal system that measures aircraft noise in the vicinity of airports. Building a residence is prohibited in the contour area, Newmen said; however, as the contour is largely within the front yard setback, she said this was unlikely to be an issue.

Coun. Kevin Hanson was absent from the meeting.
