At a regular meeting Sept. 1, Rocky View County (RVC) council unanimously voted to approved a development for a solar farm development near Beiseker.

Planner Jessica Anderson said the solar farm will be located nearly three kilometres south of Highway 72 on the east side of Range Road 263, southwest of the village in an area of the county that is primarily used for agriculture. It will be situated on 80 acres of undeveloped.

According to Anderson, the project will feature 17,000 solar panels. Each panel will be one metre by two metres in size.

She added the site was chosen by the applicants because of the availability of capacity on the FortisAlberta distribution network and because it is vacant pasture that was previously cultivated.
