Bragg Creek weekly farmers market returns for fourth year

For the fourth time, the Bragg Creek weekly farmers market is returning on June 16.

The Bragg Creek Community Centre weekly farmers market is returning every Sunday from June 16 until September 22.

Bragg Creek Community Centre event coordinator Amy Roseler said the farmers market is entering its fourth year of summer operations at the community centre, and the staff are extremely excited for another fun season.

Roseler said anyone attending the farmers market can expect an arsenal of 20 plus vendors each week equipped with fresh food, soaps, beer testing, baked goods, candles, fused glass, 3D printed items, and much more.

Last year’s food items sold included Mexican cuisine, varying seafood, sourdough bread, organic food, vegan greens, and local honey.

The farmers market is no short of activities for the young ones, however.

Children will have the opportunity to visit a balloon and face-paint artist, access to the playground, basketball court, and other activities depending on the vendors for the week.

Roseler said local businesses and associations will be featured each week with their own tent next to the home booth where visitors can get to know all about other local initiatives.

Examples range from snowboarding or clothing businesses to a small community association according to Roseler.

“We’ve got a little bit of everything going on,” she said with a chuckle.

Community volunteers help with set up and takedown of the markets each week, and Roseler said their commitment to the farmers market is pivotal to its success.

The Bragg Creek farmers market vendor rentals raised just shy of $14,000 last year for the community centre, and Roseler said their goal is to hit $15,000 this year.

With $12,000 already raised ahead of the June 16 launch, the Bragg Creek Community Centre is on track to meet their goal. Several rental spots remain vacant for vendors to snatch up according to Roseler.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun this year,” said Roseler.

The Bragg Creek Community Centre’s farmers market is only a small part of the full experience, however.

After you are done shopping through the plethora of wares, the hamlet certainly has its fair share of nature adventure for everyone. Take a walk, go for a bike ride, swim, or catch the market while you stay at one of the campgrounds.
