Calgarian arrested in RVC for motor vehicle theft

Airdrie Rural RCMP arrested a Calgary resident in Rocky View County on Jan. 26, after receiving a call about a motor vehicle theft in progress.

Airdrie Rural RCMP arrested a Calgary resident in Rocky View County on Jan. 26, after receiving a call about a motor vehicle theft in progress.

"The homeowner reported that the suspect was still on the property in the stolen truck and he was stuck in the driveway," stated a release from Airdrie RCMP.  "As police were en-route, a neighbour arrived and approached the suspect. The suspect fired a shot at the property owner and neighbor and the neighbour returned fire in self defence. Thankfully no one was injured during this exchange."

According to the release, Airdrie RCMP, along with the assistance of Cochrane and Red Deer RCMP, set up containment and awaited the arrival of K Division Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services members. After attempts to have the suspect comply with police demands to surrender, a Police Service Dog was deployed and the suspect was taken into custody.

Blaine Elliot Manywounds, 32, has been charged with 11 criminal code offences, including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm while prohibited, discharging a firearm with intent and possession of stolen property under $5,000. He also faces two counts of failure to comply with release conditions and two counts of obstructing/resisting a police officer, as well as theft and break-and-enter charges.

Manywounds has been remanded into custody and will appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on Feb. 11 at 9 a.m.
