Crossfield Chamber promotes local job and career opportunities at upcoming fair

“They can have a career right here at home where they are already starting their lives or raising their families.”
Crossfield’s growth is second only to Hardisty in Alberta.
The Chamber, in partnership with the Town of Crossfield, is hosting a Regional Career Fair on March 27.

The Crossfield Chamber of Commerce wants its residents to know that they don’t have to go far to have a career, and there are plenty of employers looking to hire within town.

The Chamber, in partnership with the Town of Crossfield, is hosting a Regional Career Fair on March 27.

“The purpose of this fair is to showcase all the opportunities that are available within Crossfield that people might not be aware about,” said Lani McLeod, executive director of the Crossfield & District Chamber of Commerce. “They can have a career right here at home where they are already starting their lives or raising their families.”

Approximately 27 employers from the area and beyond are coming to the fair, everything from local financial institutions like ATB and Connect First, to Collicutt Siding Golf Club for some seasonal employment, Rocky View Schools, the Crossfield Fire Department, and more.

Different trade-related careers will be presented at the fair as well, including Dean's Oilfield Services, Midwest Surveys from Calgary, and other options.

“We will be having some live demos from SAIT and some of the other post secondaries attending,” McLeod said. “Rocky View Schools has a virtual welding machine that will be on hand for people to give a try. We will also have a surveying demonstration, as well as some help from Prospect in learning about writing a resume or interview skills in the afternoon.”

From 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., the fair will be geared towards students with a message that they don’t have to leave the area to find meaningful employment.

Around 250 students are coming from across Rocky View County to learn a little bit about career options and trades.

From 1 p.m. until 5 p.m., the fair will be opened to the general public, encouraging people of all ages to attend.

McLeod said there are even opportunities to be interviewed on site, submit a resume, and meet with local employers.

The Chamber noted there are a lot of job opportunities in the area related to construction and the trades.

“Trades are getting quite busy in the area,” McLeod said. “So there's a lot of openings in that realm. Overall, we're seeing Crossfield just as a happening place to be business and residential wise.”

Through feedback from the community, McLeod noticed more locals are looking to work locally instead of leaving the community, and there are also plenty of young people returning for the summer in search of seasonal employment.

“What is kind of funny about Crossfield is we have just as many people leaving to go to outward areas like Airdrie and Calgary for employment in the morning as we do coming into Crossfield to work for our own local employers,” McLeod said.

The Chamber hopes to showcase the different options for employment in Crossfield during the March 27 Regional Career Fair. The public is welcome between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the Crossfield Community Center. To learn more, visit crossfieldchamber.ca.
