Mountain lovers watching the days gradually get shorter this time of year can get their annual adrenaline fix watching a film featuring world-class adventurers push the envelope at the Bragg Creek Community Centre on Sept. 16.

The film screening is part of the renowned Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival (VIMFF) series, which Shaun Peter of Bragg Creek and Kananaskis Outdoor Recreation said has become a favourite of outdoor enthusiasts in the hamlet.

“It’s been really mind-blowing to see mountain enthusiasts push the limits of their imagination to come up with new adventures and this year will be no exception.” Peter said.

“There’s a lot of adrenaline in the film, for sure.”

From combining paragliding/climbing and skiing into a single expedition or walking a slackline between two balloons over 6,000 feet in the air, the boundaries just keep expanding.

Films ranging in length from two minutes to 30 minutes combine for a two-and-a-half-hour long trip around the world, (with about a half-hour intermission), showcasing the imaginations and unique skill sets involved in all kinds of mountain adventures, from paragliding, to rock climbing, to mountain biking, and everything in between.

“Enjoy the ride, whether it be dogsledding and backcountry skiing or alpine climbing, trail running and mountain biking, the night will be full of inspiration, suspense and humour showcased in the most beautiful mountain backdrops in the world,” he added.

Peter said the film covers some mature subjects with some mature humour, but it’s all in good fun.

“We’ve had kids attend in the past and really enjoyed the show,” he said.

This is the 11th year for the film coming to Bragg Creek, apart from a couple of years off due to COVID-19.

“The last one was in 2019, so it’s great to be able to bring it back to the community,” Peter said.

“It’s a celebration we look forward to every year, to be able to come out and enjoy really inspiring and humourous and crazy adventures with people that are far more talented than I’ll ever be.”

He said he’s seen one clip from this year’s offering that particularly grabbed him.

“This one group of climbers used paragliders to access a really remote distance climb that hasn’t been done before,” he said. “They climbed up and then skied back down, so it’s a really unique combination that we haven’t seen before.”

Doors open for refreshments at 6 pm on Sept. 16, and the show starts at 7. For tickets and more information, go to bckor.ca/film-fest.
